Why this, why now
Six pressures. One set of tools.
African banks are asked to do six things at once — widen inclusion, cut operating cost, sharpen risk management, improve customer experience, keep pace with regulation, and reach millions of underserved customers. Those six pressures sort into three fronts — Decisions, Trust and Reach — and artificial intelligence answers all six from a single foundation.

The programme
Not a hackathon, but an innovation accelerator.
The First AI Institute Innovation Programme is Afriland First Bank's flagship accelerator for identifying, incubating and commercialising AI innovations for the financial sector. A hackathon ends with a demo. This ends with a live deployment of fully developed solutions.
Selected innovators move through a structured pathway — idea validation, prototype development, pilot preparation, commercial deployment — supported by technical mentoring, banking immersion, executive coaching, venture development and a secure Banking Innovation Sandbox.
Who should apply
Whether you hold an early-stage idea or a working prototype, the programme is built to move you forward. No existing company is required.

Evaluation framework
How applications are scored.
An independent Selection Committee scores every application against seven weighted criteria. The bar below is drawn to the actual weights.
